attention getter: Waking up that morning with the usual routine and preparing to go to school did not turn out so well on the morning of September 11, 2001, the moment when too much happened all at once and people all around the U.S. tried to gather their stregnth and put some sense together to what was happening. A time when people joined as one while the government took its chance to become imperial once again. We are witnessing an are in which decisions by the government are based on power an wealth. Looking back on the morning of Septbember 11, 2001 when we were attacked by al-Quaeda terrorists, the U.S. launched The War on Terrosism by invading Afghanistan, this date sure left a mark behind for the people of New York and the United States but it also sparked many questions that still remain unanswered today. Why did the U.S. military invated Iraq? The U.S. congress claimed that the Iraq War was part of the global war on terrorism. The 2002 Congressional resolution allowed the military force agaisnt Iraq to "prosecute the war on terrorism", then one month after the invation on April 2003, a poll found that 77% of Americans agreed that the Iraq War was part of the War on Terrorism and focused on the threat from Al-Qaeda.
Klein wasn't the least interested in Colbert's jokes but she did get her point across by mentioning how the government takes advantage of the markets when we are in a time of crisis because that is when they can make more profit for themselves.
STEP 1: Iraq
STEP 2: Prewriting
-I am interested in doing a research on Iraq because our U.S troops are over there fighting and getting killed, we are at war and I would like to discuss more about this issue.
- What still strikes me is why we went to war in the first place.
- The U.S. is an imperial power, because we have invated Iraq without them even wanting us there in the first place and now we can't leave just yet because we destroyed everything and we must reconstruct.
- I don't know if I will ever get to the bottom of what I really want to know because I dont believe what this country says and much less what polics have to say...
My 1st essay sucked! I really need more practice in this subject particularly because History does not interest me at all. I am a pretty good writer when it comes to writting books and such, but this not so much..
I didn't think this class would be any different than it is except for the fact that we are learning about race and discrimination. Honestly, history bores me but i have been enjoying to learn how people treat others that are not from their own country...I would have to agree with Obama's quote because America has always been a strong nation.
According to this film, I think it does show a form of colonism because Jamaican labor workers were not happy with what they were getting back from US and other countries. They thought they were working too much and too hard while the other countries were making so much more than the actuall producers. This can be compared to other forms of colonism we seen in the cluster, such as, the china labor workers and how they only got 10cents an hour to work long hours making Mardi Gras beads. In both films we see the countires with greater power can take over the poorer countries and make greater profit by barely paying them anything at all. I don't understand why the money can shared somewhat decently so that everyone involved can at least have a normal way of living....
I think that there was a lot of hate towards this situation. Some of the people in Farmindale were just pointing a finger to the labor workers in whatever happened in their town, meanwhile they were doing the same...Sometimes people can be too quick to judge and not realize what their doing themselves. All the mexicans wanted to do was work, they did not want any trouble with anyone and they certainly did not try killing anyone because of their race. It hurts me to know that some people can be so mean and cold hearted and only care about themselves, I wish this would change and hope that we can all live in PEACE!
